I’m Really Irish…

March 17, 2011

…and I wish you’d stop saying you are too.*

Truth time:  I strongly dislike St. Patrick’s Day.  Not because I dislike the holiday**, but because I really can’t stand a bunch of idiots getting together and drinking and then saying “I’m Irish today!”  No, you’re not.  You’re just a drunk ass who can’t hold his alcohol well and needs an excuse to binge drink and act like a moron all day.

St. Patrick's Day

This dude is obviously not Irish.  We know how to hold our liquor a bit better,
and don’t need a holiday to have a good time. (Source)

When I think of St. Patrick’s Day the only thing I picture is a bunch of drunk-ass frat boys acting like douche-bags.  Or striped-shirt guys.  Annoying!

*Dudes, this post is totally in jest.*** Don’t flame me about how I’m just bitter because I’m behind a desk working today.  Even if I was off today, I wouldn’t be going out for St. Patrick’s Day.  It’s annoyingly amateur, kind of like bar-hopping on New Year’s Eve.
**Not to worry.  I still LOVE to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, proudly proclaim my Irish heritage, and learn a few key Gaelic phrases from my sister, who studied abroad in Ireland.  See?  My family really IS Irish.
***Kind of.

Haha, great post! I get really annoyed by the people who can’t hold their liquor, period. I think sports playoffs are even worse. At least St. Patrick’s Day is spread out since some people party on the weekend, and some on the actual day.

I’m hoping tonight’s not too crazy, because I’m going out for my birthday celebration with friends. (I actually am half Irish, but will not be wearing green. I hope I don’t get pinched… how much does that tradition suck?)

I’m going out on St. Patrick’s Day for the first time ever. It’s never been my thing either. I’m not Irish and I’ve never been one to drink until I puke (not intentionally anyway–haha). But I got an invite to go enjoy some Irish music, some corned beef and cabbage (which I learned this morning is not an Irish tradition), and some green beer (curious: what will my urine look like after I consume this) and said why not. A first time for everything!

Hahaha…great post! I’m *not* Irish, but the most I do on St. Pat’s is wear green. I haven’t been out on St. Patrick’s day since college…and honestly, I don’t miss it. Like you said — amateur hour! :) (Happy St. Pat’s, though!)

Oh.my.goodness. This is funny. Especially that link to the striped shirt guy thing! HA! James would love that website… I’ve got to show him – because he hates those striped shirt guys! They are all over Chicago! haha :)

And I agree. I prefer cooking a nice Irish meal at home and hanging out with my family (vs. going out and dealing with an insane amount of incredibly drunk people acting-a-fool). ;)

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day! :)
