Restaurant Review: Screaming Tuna (+ weekend trip to Green Bay!)
Over the weekend, I was able to cross off part of one of my 10 in 100 list: visiting two restaurants in our neighborhood I’ve never been to before! My sister, Ali, came to visit and we went out for sushi at Screaming Tuna.
The Screaming Tuna’s website describes the restaurant as “specializing in classic flavors and inspired fusions.” My sister and I love sushi, though The Pharmacist isn’t really a big fan…so I was interested to see what we would think!
The atmosphere was nice—the décor was modern and the lighting was just right for diners to enjoy both the views of their plates and of the Milwaukee skyline.
The music was a little loud and the tables were a bit squished together, I would say, which made for louder conversation all around. Really, the only complaint we had about the atmosphere was minor—the restaurant boasts huge windows all down the riverfront side of the building. It is located on a dead end street, so cars kept turning around in the dead end and shining their lights through the windows—right into The Pharmacist’s face! We all thought a screen of some sort—located outside the restaurant–just to block the short view of the road would have really helped. It’s the little things!
We sat down and admired our place settings before ordering our drinks.
I had a glass of cabernet sauvignon…
And The Pharmacist had to try a new beer—Morimoto’s Soba Ale, from the famous Iron Chef!
Truth be told, there was nothing Asian about it. He had hoped for some different flavors, but it was really similar to Blue Moon. Ali had a glass of Riesling, which was also delicious!
We started the meal with an appetizer of edamame. It was great—perfectly salted and just the right portion for three people to share.
(That’s my sister’s finger…that’s all she wanted on the blog, haha!)
For dinner, we decided to share some rolls. Brad ordered the spicy tuna & garlic rolls for himself, and Ali and I split two larger rolls and each ordered our own hand roll.
We tried:
The Volcano Roll: shrimp tempura, kani kama, cucumber, topped with spicy scallops, tobiko, & signature lava sauce
The Dragon Roll: tempura shrimp, crabstick & cucumber topped with eel and avocado
and I had a spicy tuna roll, with Ali having the garlic roll (yes, the same thing The Pharmacist ordered. That was kind of dumb of us!).
Um, we thought everything was really good:
as evidenced by the fact that I forgot to take photos before we dug in!
Screaming Tuna was delicious. The food was perfectly timed, tasted great, and we had a very nice time! If you’re looking to try sushi for the first time or want to experience an innovative and different sushi menu, Screaming Tuna would be a great restaurant to try!

The next day, we got up and went to Bikram Yoga to sweat out all the sushi sodium. Then, we drove to Green Bay to see this guy:
(That would be my brother-in-law, Jeff.)
…and visit my other homeland:
where we, of course, admired this:
(That’s this year’s Super Bowl trophy)
Booyah, bitches. Super Bowl CHAMPS!
We’ve won a lot of them. In fact, although the Steelers have won more Super Bowl trophies than us, we have won the most league championships. So eat that, Steeler nation.
And, as a random side note: here’s a big shout-out to Jeff’s culinary school friends who read this blog since I posted about Cultural Cuisine! Y’all should comment sometime so I know you’re out there!
So, my weekend was filled with sushi, brewski, yoga & sports. Tell me: how was your weekend?

Ha! I just posed a Milwaukee restauarant review on my blog today, too! Great minds.
I’m not super into sushi (the whole seafood thing) but I’ve heard good things about this restaurant, too. Glad you enjoyed it!
Ok so I just tried sushi for the 1st time about 2 weeks ago. Loved it!!!! Have you tried Koko’s here in GB. Atmosphere was pretty cool although it did take awhile to get our food. Definately will have it again. Did Jeff grow a snout he looks alittle different in the pic. lol Have a good week!!!
That sushi place looks AMAZING. Mmmm. Now I’m craving lots of spicy salmon rolls and edamame!
