This weekend, we will head “up north.”
I love the city, but I crave the quiet rustling of the leaves up in the big woods of Wisconsin. The slower pace, even on the highway, as we rush past sleepy little towns with only one stoplight. The quaint antique markets, with their overflowing rooms of trash and treasure. The busy little shops, overflowing with tourists in search of homemade fudge & ice cream. The small town fireworks display that lasts longer and is even better than anything the big city could put on. The soft crackle of the fire as the hot summer day dissolves in the twilight.
It is exactly what I need right now.
I plan to spend a lot of time hiking, and doing yoga on the deck…
and reading, of course:
Top to Bottom: The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney, Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith, The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell, In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson, Fatal Voyage by Kathy Reichs, When Madeline Was Young by Jane Hamilton. Not pictured but ALSO packed is Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.
and I only packed one outfit. This one:
Ok, not really, but you get what I mean.
I also plan to have some of these:
It’s going to be a great weekend and I can’t wait.
Happy 4th of July to you and yours. And if you’re looking for a way to feel even more patriotic this weekend, might I recommend America: The Story of Us (it’s available on Netflix!)? It’s a great series that tells, well, The Story of Us.
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.
