Twenty Twelve Goals

January 4, 2012

It’s that time of year again!  Time to revisit my 2011 Goals and set my 2012 Goals.

Resolutions

First, my 2011 Goals.  I set my sights pretty lofty, I have to say.  I didn’t meet them all, but that’s ok.  Here’s a refresher:

For Myself:

*Read 100 books this year.  No check, but I did read 74 books this year.

*Attend church every week unless we’re out of town.  Half check.  We’ve gotten a lot better about this.

*Find something to volunteer for and start doing it.  I volunteered a few times this year (Lakeshore Weekend for Kids in Manitowoc, Penfield Children’s Center’s Annual Croquet Ball), but didn’t find a regular volunteer job.  I’d like to find something to do regularly in 2012!

*Run another half marathon.  Check! And then I realized how much I hated running and quit altogether.

*Set up a “30 Before 30” or a “101 in 1001” type list.  Check! I did a 10 in 100 list!

For Our Home:

*Clean out all of our closets, reorganize, and move items to storage.  Check and check.

*Redecorate our entire apartment.  Half check.  I redecorated our living room but didn’t get too much else.  The good news is that my taste and style is finally evolving and I know what I like and don’t like, which will make it easier to decorate our HOUSE when we purchase one!

*Do a cookbook challenge, ala Tina of Carrots ‘N Cake.  Negative.  But I did conquer a lot of my cooking fears and made a lot of really great dinners this year!

As A Couple:

*Triple our savings and pay down most debt.  We made our savings goal and we’re working on the student loans.

*Set up a specific date night and try at least one new restaurant a month.  Half check.  Tried a few new restaurants and continued to go on dates, just didn’t set a specific night.

*Explore our neighborhood more and really take advantage of our surroundings.  Half check.  We did a lot of cool neighborhood things this year but I’d still like to do more!

*Eat dinner at the table more often.  Negative.  We don’t even use our table as a table anymore.  You know what?  I’m ok with it.  When we have a house/kids, we can switch to this.

*Become more active in our church.  Negative.  We kept talking about jumping in to do stuff but just haven’t done it!

Overall, I’d say I did pretty good!  This year, I’m not going so lofty.  I only have two goals for 2012:

1. Swear less.

2. Be a kinder, less judgmental person.  I am really judgy, y’all, and it’s not good.

So, that’s it.  I think both things will make me a better person, and that’s all we can really strive for, right?  Sure, I have other things I want to work on, like continuing to conquer my cooking fears, continually improving the blog, finding that volunteer job, and more, but I think focusing on these two is a good start.

What are your goals or resolutions for 2012?

I am also really judgmental with people I meet and while in America I could control it and see past my initial reactions I am having trouble not judging people and not getting over it in Sweden due to cultural changes and I need to snap out of it too to make some friends!

You made progress on so many of your goals, that’s awesome! I definitely need to try to swear less, as well.

I hear you about being judgemental!
I made one resolution: to be happy.
I think it encompasses every aspect of my life: financially, spiritually, physically….. etc :-) So I am working on it.

I think you did pretty good on all of your 2011 goals. I would be proud if I were you! I’ve also come to terms with the fact that we’re not going to use our kitchen table for eating all that much. It’s nice every once in a while, but we’re definitely a dinner on the ottoman kind of couple. I like your goals for 2012. Keep it simple :)

I too need to stop swearing as my little man has EARS … he’s not talking yet but I’m afraid what his first words will be! haha. I also like the judging one – I can become a mean girl when I’m with some people – talking about other people behind their backs – not cool!

My goals are: get my body ready for baby #2 (NO time soon, but I was in the worst shape of my life before I got pregnant and I won’t do that to myself again); Enjoy every minute of Lyle (stop with the iphone/tv/computer while he is awake and actually PLAY with him more); Make the most of work (if i have to be away from my baby I want to be successful at what I do); and Understand our finances better (G handles most of the finances and investments and I want to know where all of our money is!)

Those are great goals! I also need to try to stop swearing as much – especially when I’m driving! I think my goal for 2012 is to be present and live in the moment. Easy to say, but much harder to do!

Swear less is a really good goal – I worked on it this year and I love how much more articulate I’ve become. Plus, I now say things like “goodness gracious” which makes me smile when I hear it – and by that, I’m already in a better mood!

Swearing less is one of my major goals for 2012 too! Need some soap for this dirty mouth! :P Happy New Year, A!

    I like your 10 in 100 idea, I’ve always contemplated doing a 30 before 30.

1st off…its gonna be weird NOT to hear you swear..no offense! I swear a lot too. My goals for 2012 are: watch every movie Jason Bateman was in (love him) and to finish things I start. I’m horrible at starting projects and not finishing them. Like purchasing crafty items for projects and then they sit in the basement. Oh,and another goal is to get married in Sept :)
