Week 20

Missed a week? You can see all of my pregnancy related posts on the Pregnancy tab at the top of the page.

This post deserves some extra commentary, because hello:  TWENTY WEEKS, Y’ALL.  Halfway there!  I can’t believe it.  I am sure the next twenty weeks will absolutely fly by, but right now I am loving pregnancy.  I feel great!  Tomorrow is our big anatomy scan, and I am really looking forward to finding out if the baby is a boy or a girl.

Yes, we’re finding out.  It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but we both really want to know.  I know that our parents were kind of disappointed when we told them we were finding out, because I think both sets wanted it to be a surprise.  As such, we’ve decided we’re not going to share the baby’s NAME until after he or she is born, so there are still some surprises on that day (I’ll do a separate name post somewhere down the line where I will talk about our naming strategy in depth).  Besides, as one friend pointed out to me, it’s still a surprise no matter when you find out the gender:  you either get the surprise at 20 weeks or at 40 weeks.  We’re just opting to get the gender surprise at 20 weeks (baby willing, of course).

Haha, the parents were the opposite in our case! We decided we weren’t going to find out and our parents have been bugging us about it ever since, “oh it would be so much easier to buy things for the baby if we knew if it was a boy or a girl”. There’s no winning! Congrats on halfway!

We kept Noah’s name a secret until D-Day. YAY for 20 weeks!!!

You look fantastic – so excited for your anatomy scan!!! :) We kept L’s name a secret until she was born, but gave our ever-nosey families a list of “possiblities” that included what we chose. I didn’t even want to do that, but the pressure was intense!

You’re looking great!! So funny that both of your parents didn’t want you to find out the gender. Ours really wanted us to find out. Then, of course, they bugged us for the name until she was born. :) It’s so much fun to announce the name when the baby is born. Everyone wants to know and you finally get to tell them! Good luck at your anatomy scan tomorrow – can’t wait to hear what you are having!!

I LOVED finding out the gender, but I agree, to each their own. My thought process was there are enough surprises on delivery day (when you go into labor, how said labor will be, what he/she looks like and weighs, etc…), plus, I thought it helped me bond more with my kiddos in utero, to know it if was a little boy or girl I was singing too. :) We annouced Morgan’s name, but kept Sam’s a semi-secret, which was fun. Can’t wait to find out your news tomorrow, I will be watching for it!!! XOXO

We did the same with both of our boys. And yes to having a surprise at 20 weeks! I had people say, “Oh, so you’re not waiting to be surprised?” and I always say, “I was surprised!” :)
This time around, we found out and we’ve been telling the name to friends and family (we just haven’t made a big announcement). It’s been so sweet to have my older two boys call their baby brother by name and have family and friends refer to the baby by name as well.
