Laundry Room Inspiration
This weekend is FINALLY our big move to the new house! I am so excited to finally get in there and start living, haha. As I mentioned in that post, we had a lot we wanted to accomplish before we moved in. Namely, we wanted to a) paint the nursery, b) paint the laundry room and c) paint the trim. Guess how much of that we got done?
Exactly nothing. Which kind of sucks, but to be fair: we didn’t paint the nursery because we wanted to wait until after our anatomy scan to decide paint colors/theme (which has since been decided, I think!). We didn’t paint the trim because we decided to live with it for awhile first before going all out and painting or hiring someone to do so (after all, it’s perfectly nice trim as is). And we didn’t paint the laundry room because in case you haven’t noticed, it’s been HOT. Like too hot to do any sort of painting whatsoever, even with the air conditioner on.
Instead, we fixed a lot of the little problems noted in our home inspection report (like fixed a few missing pieces of linoleum in the kitchen, hooked up the fridge’s ice-maker, changed the lines for the washer/dryer, etc.) so our house is A-OK to move into. And we feel really good about that!
We’ve got about 90% of our stuff there already and are living with the bare bones at our apartment. On Saturday, all we will (hopefully) really have to move is our furniture and the Reg-Man. I plan to be at the house early with him, since I can’t help move the furniture anyway.
In the meantime, I’ve been gathering lots of inspiration for what will be one of the first home projects we take on: our laundry room! It’s pretty much the only room in the house that looks kinda dingy. Here’s what she looks like now:
And here’s the inspiration photos I’m using:
{EDITED TO ADD: We won’t be doing a chandelier, guys! I should have mentioned that. I think they look nice, but in our house it would be very impractical, since the laundry room is the gateway from the garage. There is a perfectly fine light fixture in there already that we will continue to use!]
We also won’t be doing any built-in cabinets or anything like that and will be keeping the current laundry shelf. This is because we actually have a great set of built-ins already in the laundry room, on the other side:
I plan to organize these with some nice baskets and such.
I also plan to add a little artwork to the walls. Particularly: ![]()
and I plan to do up a more contemporary version of this:
You know what’s funny? Anytime we’ve moved into a new place, I’ve always known exactly how I wanted to decorate the smallest, most obscure room we have. It’s always the first thing I do. In this apartment, it was the bathroom. In the new house, it’s the laundry room. In previous apartments, it’s usually been a bathroom or closet. Isn’t that so random? I have no idea how to decorate big spaces like our living room, but I know exactly what I want to do in this tiny, used-once-or-twice-a-week room.
So there you have it! Our laundry room inspiration. I’ll post back when it’s finished! And stay tuned: I have a few more “inspiration” posts to share for areas throughout the home.

Love your inspiration photos, I actually have a few of those pinned myself. And I’m the same way, I like to start with the smaller rooms first! Less pressure/easier to decide on stuff I guess.
Good luck with your move, I hope everything goes smoothly for you guys!
I love your inspiration photos, especially the “WASH” sign! Can’t wait to see what you do with it (and, well, EVERYTHING! New houses are exciting!)
Love love love the photos!!!
Hi Amy! I also love your inspiration pictures! I’m not sure that I can picture “B” getting too excited about the chandelier (LOL! I love it though) but I really like all of it. I ESPECIALLY like the clothespins with the “lost sock” sign…SO handy! In 38 years, I don’t think I’ve ever done a load of socks that came out with all matched! I’m going to do this in MY laundry room! Good luck on Saturday…so excited for you!
No chandelier. We have a perfectly good light fixture in that room already!
Loving the teal/turquoise colour! And I’m a HUGE fan of chandeliers in rooms that you wouldn’t expect to find one. Although I do see in the comment above that you aren’t doing one, but still. Super cute room!
Can’t wait to see what you guys do with it!
Our laundry is in the garage so I have a few of these pinned myself, I love the inspiration!
I love your inspiration photos – can’t wait to see it all come together!
I just said to my friend the other day “I think I want to paint our laundry room.” She was like, “Why? Because it’s small and manageable?” Yep. Pretty much. I’m like you. I get OMGOVERWHELMED when it comes to large, often-used spaces. But a little laundry room? I can handle that!
Love your inspiration.
I think I’ve pinned a few of those myself!
