The Nursery: Phase One

August 7, 2012

So, my weekly photo is late this week because I haven’t had a chance to actually take it yet…because we’ve been hard at work on the nursery!  I am so excited to finally be working on this room and while I enjoy the process fully, I am very excited to see it all finished up & put together.

If you follow me on Pinterest, you have probably already guessed that we’re going with a baseball theme!  The nursery theme will be loosely based off of these crib sheets I purchased at Babies R Us:

Crib Sheets

We definitely used these sheets to help us decide on our colors.   We picked a light blue paint and will be accenting the crib bedding with a navy DIY crib skirt.  I also have a few other navy accents planned throughout the room, and we will use some of the other colors (maroon, tan, light blue) in décor accents as well.

This weekend we got started with the first major project:  painting!  First up, what the room looked like BEFORE:

Reg wasn’t too sure about this whole painting thing.

And AFTER!

We love it.  The color is Dutch Boy Spacious Skies in a satin finish, and we used their Refresh paint (no VOCs) so that I could help with the paint job (of course, I still wore a mask and we had plenty of fans going to ventilate the room).  The color is a dead on match to the pale blue in the crib sheets and we are so happy with the way it turned out.  I felt so motivated after our painting adventure that I immediately started on my next project—a bunting to go all the way around the top of the room, ala nurseries like this:

Here’s the colors we’re using for the bunting (again, playing off the crib sheets):

Left to right:  pale blue plaid, pale blue canvas, stars, maroon canvas, denim, tan canvas, marron stars, navy canvas, baseballs, pale blue, maroon, and tan canvas again.

I actually finished it last night but we have to hang it yet, so you’ll have to stay tuned for a little tutorial on that.  Two words:  No Sew.  Three more words:  Easy as pie.  I am so happy with how it turned out!

So there you have it…baby boy’s nursery, phase one.  I am ordering our crib & mattress today and can’t wait for them to arrive.  Stay tuned!
